Initial Visit
During your Initial dental visit we will take your digital dental x-rays. We encourage you to bring records from your previous dentist so that we can compare them to your current dental x-rays. Digital dental X-rays are a useful diagnostic tool when helping your dentist detect damage and disease not visible during a regular dental exam. You will also receive a dental cleaning known as dental prophylaxis. This dental maintenance procedure is done for patients who have healthy gums. If gum disease such as gingivitis or periodontitis is present, a more extensive treatment may be necessary and will be discussed with you by your treating dentist. Your dentist will also check every tooth to make sure all of your teeth and gums are healthy and problem free.
Dental Fillings and Crowns
Your treating dentist will check your teeth and let you know if any dental treatment is necessary. Dental restorations can range from minor dental fillings to more extensive dental crowns and dental bridges. Dental fillings are done using tooth colored, metal free, composite materials and are a restoration of choice for teeth with minor damage from either dental cavities or breakage.
If a larger restoration is required, a dental crown may be right for you. A dental crown provides full tooth coverage and looks exactly like a natural tooth. If you are missing a tooth, a dental bridge or an implant may be necessary.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are needed for a cracked tooth from injury or genetics, a deep cavity, or issues from a previous filling. Patients generally need a root canal when they notice their teeth are sensitive, particularly to hot and cold sensations or to percussion.
Dental Implants and Tooth Replacement
A dental implant is a titanium post that acts like a tooth root. An implant is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line that allows your dentist to mount replacement teeth or a bridge into that area. An implant doesn't come loose like a denture can. Dental implants also benefit general oral health because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like dental bridges.
